AMPP Protective Coating Specialist (PCS)
PCS Main Responsibilities
- Technical Proficiency: Utilize deep knowledge of coating systems to select appropriate materials, analyze failures, and review or update technical specifications.
- Planning Solutions: Identify corrosion concerns through coating assessments, create an immediate or multiple year plan to reduce or remove those concerns, and finally establish a maintenance plan.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations during planning and project execution.
- Project Leadership: Oversee all phases of coating projects, acting as a liaison among contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
- Mentorship: Train and support team members in best practices for applying and inspecting protective coatings.
- Record Keeping: Document all aspects of the coating process, from material selection to inspection outcomes.

Role of a Senior Certified Coatings Inspector
Position Summary
A Certified Coatings Inspector is a seasoned professional who specializes in evaluating and verifying the quality during the removal and application of protective coating materials. This role is crucial for organizations aiming to maintain the integrity and longevity of their assets by preventing corrosion and ensuring compliance with technical standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Daily on-site Quality Assurance during the application of protective coatings, ensuring specifications, standards, and procedures are followed.
- Quality Evaluation: Verifying contractor QC inspections at all stages, from having the correct materials on site, witnessing surface preparation and applications, to verifying proper curing of materials, and all required testing is being performed by the contractors. Address any issues related to quality, design, or application failures. Verifying calibration of QC inspection tools.
- Reporting: QA inspectors keep daily records work being performed, daily inspection results, testing, and adherence to project specifications. Prepare clear daily or weekly reports.
- Safety & Regulation: Ensure all activities comply with safety, health, and environmental standards.
Certification & Experience
- Basic Coatings Inspector: trained in non-destructive testing and inspections. An understanding surface preparation and coating application inspections in shop and field environments. and coating standards
- Certified Coatings Inspector will meet all Basic Coating Inspector requirements, with additional training in preparing and applying coatings to surfaces other steel, e.g. concrete, wood, etc. This inspector would have advanced training in destructive testing and inspections.
- Senior Certified Coating Inspectors hold advanced credentials and have extensive knowledge and experience in all fields and industries. They are qualified to oversee complex projects and may lead other inspectors or work crews.
